Ring Camera Setup
ReefMind can use your Ring cameras through your Ring account, cloud to cloud. No ReefMind Collector, camera IP address or camera password is needed. You link Ring from the Ring app, and Ring brings you to ReefMind to finish.
Before you start
- You need a ReefMind.ai account first. Linking Ring attaches it to the ReefMind account you already have. It never creates a new one. If you don't have an account yet, create one at reefmind.ai first.
- A Ring account with a Ring camera.
- Linking Ring is free on every plan. Snapshots, Live video and camera AI checks are part of the ReefMind Pro plan, the same as every other camera type. The free 10-day trial includes them too.
- Your Ring email and your ReefMind email can be different. You choose which ReefMind account gets your Ring cameras.
Information only: Ring pictures feed camera AI observations. They never change dosing, equipment or any automation.
Link Ring
- Open the Ring app, find ReefMind.ai in the Ring Appstore and link it.
- Ring opens ReefMind. If you are not signed in, sign in to your ReefMind account with your email and password, or with Google or Apple if that is how you sign in. Forgot your password? Choose Forgot password?, reset it, then sign in in the same browser.
- ReefMind shows the ReefMind account Ring will link to, and the tank for your Ring cameras. If that is the wrong account, choose Not you? Switch account and sign in to the right one.
- Choose Link Ring account.
- ReefMind opens the Camera tab. Choose your Ring camera from the list, give it a name, and choose + Add Camera. To add more Ring cameras later, choose + Add Camera and pick Ring.
Ring gives you 10 minutes from the Ring app to finish. If you take longer, open ReefMind.ai again from the Ring app.
No tank yet? You can still link Ring. ReefMind then asks you to set up your tank; after that, add your Ring cameras with + Add Camera on the Camera tab.
What you get
- A snapshot from each Ring camera every 15 minutes, and Snap takes one now.
- Live video in ReefMind on the web, iPhone and Android. Ring ends live video after 60 seconds (30 seconds on battery cameras); choose Keep watching to start again.
- Camera AI checks on your Ring snapshots, like every other camera.
- Ring adds its watermark to every picture. ReefMind's AI ignores it.
Disconnect
On the Camera tab, choose + Add Camera, pick Ring, then choose Disconnect Ring. This works on any plan. ReefMind removes its Ring access, your Ring cameras in ReefMind and every Ring snapshot it saved, and tells Ring to unlink ReefMind.ai.
You can also remove ReefMind.ai in the Ring app. If ReefMind says Ring did not answer when you disconnect, remove ReefMind.ai in the Ring app too.
Troubleshooting
"This Ring link expired"
More than 10 minutes passed, or the link was already used. Open ReefMind.ai again from the Ring app.
"No OAuth parameters found" or "Start in the Ring app"
The link was started outside the Ring app. Ring cameras link only from the Ring app: find ReefMind.ai in the Ring Appstore and link it there.
Ring linked to the wrong ReefMind account
Sign in to the wrong account, choose Disconnect Ring, then open ReefMind.ai again from the Ring app and sign in to the right account.
"This Ring account is already linked to a different ReefMind account"
A Ring account links to one ReefMind account. Choose Not you? Switch account and sign in to the ReefMind account that has it, or disconnect Ring in that account first.
"This ReefMind account is already linked to a different Ring account"
A ReefMind account links to one Ring account. Disconnect Ring on the Camera tab first, then open ReefMind.ai again from the Ring app.
I don't have a ReefMind account
Create one at reefmind.ai, then open ReefMind.ai again from the Ring app.
Snapshots or Live video say they need the Pro plan
Ring stays linked on any plan. Snapshots, Live video and camera AI checks need ReefMind Pro or the free trial. Plans are on reefmind.ai.
"Ring disconnected ReefMind"
Ring ended the link, so your Ring cameras stopped sending snapshots and new Ring cameras cannot be added. The Camera tab and each Ring camera say so, and ReefMind emails you once. Open the Ring app, find ReefMind.ai in the Ring Appstore and link it again. Your Ring cameras come back automatically.
"This Ring camera is offline"
Check the camera in the Ring app, then try again.
